Methven Lions are a group of about 70 locals who volunteer their time and skills for the benefit of the local community. Many fundraising activities are undertaken with the proceeds distributed locally.
Major projects include the Mountain Thunder Motorcycle street race in Methven each Easter weekend, Mt Hutt Open Day, and the High Country 4WD safari. Manpower is donated to help with the logistics of other events such as the Methven Rodeo and A&P Show.
Assistance is given with many other community projects such as maintaining the Garden of Harmony, painting the community pool, World Service Day and running the Ruawai Exchange. Every month a different community group is paid to cater the member’s dinner meal.
All these efforts combine to generate significant funds for the local community, by the local community.
